Reaching Out in Mission

'Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food,
or thirsty and gave you something to drink?
And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you,
or naked and gave you clothing?
And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?'
And the king will answer them,
'Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these
who are members of my family, you did it to me.'
Matthew 25:37-40 (NRSV)

Pentecost Offering

Pentecost Offering The Pentecost Offering is traditionally received on the day of Pentecost (May 31, 2009). It provides a direct way to meet the needs of children at risk, youth, and young adults. Congregations are encouraged to keep 40 percent of the Offering to support ministry with children at risk in their communities. In the past Trinity has used the local portion to support a variety of programs such as Friends of the Family and the Presbyterian Children's Home.

The General Assembly's portion (60 percent) provides leadership development opportunities for Presbyterian youth and young adults and supports children-at-risk programs at the national level. Since 1998, Presbyterians of all ages have raised over $7 million for these ministries that benefit younger members of God's family.

This offering will be taken on Pentecost Sunday (May 31, 2009). Watch a brief video to learn more.

Community Organic Garden

The Community Organic Garden is up and running. Potatoes, peas, onions, garlic and herbs have been planted. Beds have been dug and prepared for more vegetables. Every Saturday morning gardeners are gathering for fellowship and hard work. Our next project is to build more compost bins. We hope to turn kitchen scraps and coffee grounds into compost to help our plants grow. An herb garden is ready for seeds and water. Talk to Bob Hanson or Tom Slade to find out how you can become involved in this new mission to Denton.

Trinity Volunteers

Trinity Volunteers is a new outreach in mission at Trinty. The purpose is to give everyone at Trinity the opportunity to do mission work in our community. Each month, a volunteer opportunity in one of our communty projects is offered to the congregation. You can volunteer to work with others from our congregation at Cumberland Children's Home, at Ruth's Room, at Our Daily Bread, or in the Community Food Center. Mission committee is hard at work to find other volunteer opportunities for each of us to participate in. In December, you can volunteer at the Community Food Center to sort, sack and organize food for people in need in Denton. We can work between 1 and 3 on December 16, 18, 22, and 23. Sign up sheets are in the narthex.

Another opportunity will be ready for you in January.
